On Friday 25th February, the first cohort of Mulberry STEM Academy scholars attended a special graduation ceremony to recognise and mark their participation in the STEM programme.
The Mulberry STEM Academy is a Saturday/holiday provision that provides a place of learning, inspiration and innovation for young people. It was set up in Autumn 2020 by the Mulberry Schools Trust in partnership with Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix Ltd – two high performing organisations in their respective fields of education and motorsports.
The graduation ceremony was held at Mulberry Academy Shoreditch where students were joined by parents, Headteachers from across our schools, Trustees and speakers to celebrate the students’ achievements. A special and very popular guest had arrived earlier in the day to take centre stage – the recently launched, spectacular Mercedes W13 car.
The Trust were very pleased to welcome Paul Mills, Chief People Officer who gave a moving speech and Russell Braithwaite, Chief Financial Officer at Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix Ltd who presented the students with their graduation certificates. Another special visitor also made an appearance on the day which was one of the highlights of the afternoon. Sir Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time F1 World Champion, sent a heartfelt video message congratulating the students on their achievements and he wished them the best for the future.
During the event, all students were presented with a special gift and a graduation certificate. A small group of students also received ‘PRIDE’ awards for best exemplifying Passion, Respect, Innovation, Determination and Excellence during their time on the programme. These important values are shared by both Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix Ltd and the Mulberry Schools Trust and the awards were a great way to draw the ceremony to a close.
Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed some delicious food and took the opportunity to browse some amazing STEM displays showcasing science, computer science and maths at Mulberry Academy Shoreditch.
Everyone had a fantastic afternoon and our proud STEM scholars definitely had a day to remember!
A very big thank you to Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix Ltd for partnering with the Mulberry Schools Trust to give our young people such amazing opportunities.
