Mulberry UTC and Pepper joined the NHS England Young People’s Takeover Challenge Event at Guy’s Hospital on Saturday. Pepper is an industrial robot, already used as a hospital receptionist in Belgian hospitals, where it greets patients, shows them around and helps with translation. UTC students will work with Pepper and other developments in health technology, so they are well prepared for their future careers. Pepper’s manufacturers claim it is an ’emotional’ robot which helps people feel relaxed by responding to them in a friendly and empathetic way. The people who met Pepper on Saturday certainly seemed to agree!
